A salad bar like this and a fruit bar are offered every day with your choice of a hot lunch meal or a sandwich from our sandwich bar!  The food at Saint James School is not your average school meal.  It is healthy, nutritious and delicious!

Health and Nutrition

Saint James School (SJS) is the first Gold School of Distinction in York County for both its elementary school and its before and after care program and its preschool, a triple crown winner!  5210 is a National program that focuses on healthy eating and exercise.  Students should have FIVE fruits and vegetables a day.  This is easy at SJS because each day students go to the salad bar and the fruit bar in the cafeteria and have a colorful tray of food each day.  Also, birthdays are celebrated with healthy snacks.  TWO stands for less than two hours of screen time each day.  You do NOT see students staring at television screens at SJS.  ONE stands for one hour of exercise each day.  Students in grades K-4 have a morning recess and another recess at lunch time.  They also have two PE classes each week.  One is the entire class and the other is a half class and then switches to the other half of the class.  This allows the teacher to differentiate instruction in the classroom.  ZERO stands for no sugary treats and students at SJS go to the fruit bar for their dessert.  This is also replicated on the sports field or for any other events.  When you are part of the Saint James community, you are part of a healthy community and you can rest assured, your child is learning about living a healthy lifestyle.  Here is our wellness policy.
